I like that Fivetran can partner with Census to complete the Modern Data stack and give companies the analytics they need in both destination and source. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Not as much cost transparency as there is with other Reverse ETL platforms. I wish there was a stronger support team with census, compared so some of the other competitors on the market. As well as a Freemium version. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Giving Fivetran customers the added benefit of reverse ETL. It supports multiple sources, including databases, cloud applications, and APIs, and integrates with various cloud-based data warehouses such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, and Google BigQuery. It provides pre-built connectors for many popular data sources and automates the data pipeline, making it easier for our business to consolidate data and gain insights. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Lack of real time streaming or processing data. It does not support real-time ingestion of data. It has a configurable sync schedule that can run as frequently as every five minutes for some data sources. There are some time issue faced with schedular as well during our POC. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had to pull data from different sources and push it to Database, we were exploring option during POC, first we had only batch mode data processing as requirement , so we consider it . Its easy to configure the source due to pre-built connectors , supporting quick integration and different data formats solved our problem. The data can be loaded into the destination database relatively quickly after it is added or updated in the source system. In the last year, we've been able to replace several engineering-built processes with Census to get Data from BQ to a variety of tools across the business. If your a business that needs to get more complex with DBT and Census Segments, etc, the UX scales very well to support that. The team did a great job and technical and nontechnical team members alike will easily be able to do what they need! **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Pricing in the last year has come up quite a bit, but it is the best tool on the market - so I guess you have to pay to play. It also provide lot of documentation accross the board which help to gain knowledge. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** There is not as such which i really dislike about census, but i think the documentation around census should be more in detail like how to write query for syncing data with one or two example each. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Census is syncing data from billing system to netsuite. since billing system has lot of cons which is easily manageable in census and developer can run query to filter the bad data to sync in NetSuite. ### 33. We've never run into any issues with Census and its UI is simple and intuitive. Love how focused and reliable the product is. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** There's nothing I dislike about Census. Everyone at the company on the data team as well as those on other teams (marketing, sales) that rely on the data are huge fans. So glad we're no longer using Zapier for this. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Census lets us update data in HubSpot and Salesforce with data that we have in our data warehouse, BigQuery. This ensures that marketing and sales have easy access to all of the relevant data points about our customers and users. ### 34. The learning curve is very minimal and the tool is easy to pick up and run with. The number of sources and destinations offered are extensive and meet our business needs. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** If you incorrectly set up a sync, it can be difficult to make changes to the sync without setting up an entirely new sync and deleting the original. Other than that, no complaints! **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Reverse ETL using Census has changed the game for our organization. The ability to get data in the hands of business users without requiring them to leave Salesforce has helped to make our org much more data-driven. Census has removed a layer of friction in that users have key data points where they want them, without having to log into or learn a new tool. ### 35. I couldn't believe how easy this was to set up and start serving ads to our target accounts on LinkedIn and create dynamic exclusion lists on Google! There's almost NO maintenance with these audiences, so we're easily able to test more and more granular subsets of our target account list. I can't wait to use it to enrich our targeting with first party data and not worry about static uploads for offline conversion tracking!! Their team is so helpful if there's an integration I need, and solved a little bug that cropped up in an extremely efficient manner. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** You can't filter or search for models by name, so if there's a lot of activity on the account, sometimes models that I need to sync from get a little lost. It would be cool to have folders or groups. It does segment your syncs by destination, however that's still tough to sort through if you have a lot. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** The upkeep of static audience lists is essentially gone. It's so simple to exclude our employees and paid users from our ads without having to upload new lists weekly. It's giving us the option to get really granular with our targeting, especially when combined with Mixpanel cohorts. I can find a subset of users that haven't reached the aha moment and create a cohort, define that segment in Census, and sync it to our ad accounts in minutes, serving them helpful articles to nurture them towards success in our product. ### 37. Census doesn't spread itself to thin but rather focuses on that one critical link in the chain relying on partners for the rest. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Census is a great tool but has limitations. I'd recommend really using them for their tried and true use cases like pulling data back into salesforce and using a different tool for more complex database use cases. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Primarily the one I mentioned of pulling data back into salesforce, they are really good at that, they can also be used to pull data back into other applications. ### 38. Their documentation is excellent, and it even has a section for common errors, which helped us debug a duplication issue in no time! They also provide an API Inspector to see the requests made during syncs. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** Census provides many ways to configure whether you want to create new records, update existing ones, do both, delete the removed ones, etc. But when configuring each field, it only has options to update values from the source or only do it if the destination is empty. It would be nice if we could add more smart rules like only update if the source is not empty or only updating field A if field B in destination is not empty, etc. This is not a deal breaker but it would be nice to have. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** Census is helping us keep Salesforce in sync so our business team can access the latest information from our application usage right with all their client notes. Salesforce tends to be frustrating for developers, but Census simplified everything. ### 39. We've been able to sync data at a very low latency and with very low costs, thanks to the MAR pricing model. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** The difficulty of building custom connectors is an issue, as you'd need to have programming experience. I have used their connector to transfer data from Salesforce to Azure SQL database. I can easily follow their instructions to set up their connection without any knowledge in their underlying applications and APIs. They also offer decent user support. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** There are some data connectors that are missing and their product timeline is not respected. For example, I asked for a data connector on Microsoft Dynamics 365 in Q2 this year. At that time they told me that it is on their roadmap for Q3 2022. However the connector is still not ready today. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** They are working on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 data connector. It has been very difficult to connect this application to any database as Microsoft offers a relatively closed system in data interface. Fivetran told me that the connector will be ready in Q1 2023 ### 46. The UI was fairly intuitive and the help center was actually helpful solving the issues I had. Additionally, our analytics team also gets a ton of value from Census creating new data pipelines easily. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** The pricing model is confusing -- even after review, we don't understand exactly what we are paying for. The biggest obstacle we've actually had is figuring out if new reports will add to our bill. Despite this, we still got an unforeseen price increase and had to go back and remove fields. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use census to connect a number of platforms without having a dedicated data engineering team. In particular, we use the connection between Pipedrive, BigQuery and Google Sheets to develop most of our standardized reporting. ### 47. Census is one of the quickest and easiest ways I've ever used to get product data from a data warehouse to a connected system. I don't even know SQL, but I was able to modify a query that our data team outlined for me to test and deploy a sync in under half a day. I'm looking forward to learning basic SQL so that I can start self-serving the data my team needs through Census. **What do you dislike about Fivetran?** My biggest con of Census currently is not knowing SQL, which is just a gap in my skill set. Once I build knowledge of basic SQL, I don't think I'll have many complaints about the system. Of course, the usability of Census is dependent upon the cleanliness and organization of our DWH, which could use some work, but that's our problem. :) **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've used Census to push product usage data from our data warehouse into a connected business system. Right now, this is only offered when creating new sync * If a sync has too many fields, it is challenging to browse through to find the one you are looking for; a search feature would be beneficial here * Setting up an initial sync takes up some time, and it has happened before that I have been logged out when trying to save the sync only to realise that it has all gone and now I need to re-do * A feature to copy an existing sync would be helpful for situations when the same sync needs to be set up for different environments **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** * Allows non-technical stakeholders to view the data directly in the business application they use, which now has data from other sources synced to it through Census. * No need to setup any personal infrastructure to do reverse ETL * Using real-time data to feed Braze, which handles our email communications. ### 49. There are a handful of integrations that I'd like them to add, but they are typically super responsive and add them pretty quickly. I hadn't set up my error notifications correctly, so I missed a handful of times when a sync broke. But the notifications are there, you just have to remember to customize. **What problems is Fivetran solving and how is that benefiting you?** It solves the problem of being difficult/manual to connect the data in our Snowflake data warehouse to other tools that we use. This enables to do so much more with our data - connecting it to marketing automation tools to send more intelligent/relevant emails to our users, and to our CRM so sales reps know which users are most active in our product, and so much more. ### 50. If they made it a little more user friendly to understand it would be helpful. The other thing that I wished was they were quicker at getting to connector requests.
